Catch Magazine’s 68th Edition features a very special T-Motion Theater film called “Travels with Charlie: In search of B.C. Coho salmon.” Son of filmmaker, Todd Moen, the eleven year-old Charlie Moen makes his debut on film with a trip into British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest in search of Coho salmon on the fly. Born into fly fishing, this young boy finds big fish on the rivers feeding Kimsquit Bay. Led by Jeff Hickman, guide and owner of Fish the Swing and Kimsquit Bay Lodge, Charlie finds classic high-action hookups, gorgeous aerial shots and plenty of chrome.
“Travels with Charlie” is an uplifting story of a boy’s perspective on fishing and working with his filmmaking father in a coming-of-age adventure. Orcas and whales, eagles and bears…this is the quintessential B.C. It captivates even the seasoned angler with its reminder of humble and exciting beginnings into the sport of fly fishing. With much pride and a whole lot of nostalgia, we present to you a very special film starring the next generation of Catch Magazine. Todd Moen has been a working filmmaker for nearly 25 years. Growing up in Montana, he would often document his friends fly-fishing with his parents’ analog 8mm tape camera. After studying fine arts at Montana State University, Moen took a job with a production company shooting fly fishing events for ESPN and OLN. After surviving a plane crash from a job, he decided to quit the “on-the-road” lifestyle and start a photography and film-based journal, Catch Magazine. Moen, who runs the magazine with his wife, Kelley Moen, has since produced 65 films for Catch, which have earned awards and thousands of subscribers. “In this niche, I’ve worked with many non-profit organizations across the world that support water, fish and the fishing community,” explains Moen. “I’ve befriended a great variety of people in this industry, and I continue to meet new and interesting people in unique locations to film fly fishing.”
