Esox Escape
George Daniel
Dear Catch readers,
We proudly bring you the 77th edition of Catch Magazine.
In this issue, George Daniel shares his passion for catching muskey on the fly in his Northeastern homewaters. As director of the Joe Humphrey’s Fly Fishing Program at Pennsylvania State University, George captures early November through mid-March in his essay “Esox Escape.”
Next, Noah Rosenthal’s essay “Tsimane Tangle” adventures into Bolivia’s wild Amazonian jungle to catch golden dorado. Deep into Tsimane’s Agua Negra Camp, Noah hunts his own heart of darkness on the fly.
In his classic style, Brian O’Keefe brings it back to New Zealand with his essay “New Zealand- Part 1 Spring.” His photos feature the South Island’s Makarora River Valley. Among the first to return as a foreign angler after Covid closures, Brian illustrates a work trip at Cedar Lodge perfect for catching large trout.
And Catch Magazine’s newest T-Motion film features Jakob Lund in Alaska, swing fishing for rainbow trout in “Bristol Bay Trout Spey,” by Todd Moen.
Topping off the issue, you’ll discover alpine lake trout fishing with Justin Hamblin’s essay “High Alpine Lakes.” Spanning the entire summer season, Justin’s photos capture the moods and seasonal characteristics of the fish and alpine lake environment.
Finally, we’d like to introduce something new in Catch Magazine! Each issue will include a “Tying Theater” video to compliment an essay in the current edition . This time, adding to Justin’s essay on high alpine lakes, Spawn Flyfish contributes a short instructional video called “Special Scud Pattern”to the new Tying Theater.
Enjoy the issue!
