Filmed during an extraordinary 10-day backcountry experience, Spatsizi takes viewers deep into the heart of northern British Columbia’s Spatsizi Wilderness, a vast, nearly 2-million-acre landscape and home waters of the Collingwood family’s legendary Spatsizi Wilderness Lodge. From the wing of Ray Collingwood’s Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser, Todd Moen captures the beauty of the Eaglenest Range and Firesteel River Valley, revealing a place where wild rivers, untouched wilderness, and exceptional fly fishing converge. More than just breathtaking imagery, this film documents Ray Collingwood’s original vision, beginning in the late 1960s, to build and operate a world-class rainbow trout fly-fishing lodge in one of the most remote regions on Earth.
Featuring rare moments shared with Ray and his daughter Carrie, Spatsizi highlights the deep connection between family, history, bush planes, and what Todd describes as the finest rainbow trout fishing he has experienced in his lifetime. With unforgettable days on the water, birds-eye views from float planes, and unparalleled access to this remote wilderness park, the film captures the true essence of Spatsizi, a place unlike any other. Special thanks to Ray and Carrie Collingwood, the entire Spatsizi Wilderness Lodge family, and pilot Billy Labonte for his exceptional flying skills.
